Shuttle run

Shuttle run

Test Focus

Cardiovascular fitness.

Description

You are required to run at an increasing pace back and forth between two markers set 20 metres apart.

Pass Criteria

You are required to complete Level 9, Shuttle 6 of the test. You are required to place one foot either on or behind the 20m mark at the end of each shuttle. You must be within two strides of the end line at the ‘beep’. If you fail to be within 2 strides of the end line, a warning will be issued. If you fail to be within 2 strides of the end line at the next consecutive beep, you will be deemed to have failed the test. You must pivot at the end line and not run in an arc.

It is strongly recommended that you obtain a copy of the Shuttle Run Assessment (tape/CD). Please refer to the Assessments of Firefighter Applicants (PDF, 557KB) for details as to where to obtain this from.

Following successful completion of the Shuttle Run, you will have a 15 minute rest break prior to commencing the Firefighting Task Course.
