If a building design proposes an alternative solution to meet the fire safety requirements of the BCA, the NSWFB can assist developers in ensuring that the proposal complies. This service is designed to save the developer time and money by ensuring plans will not be rejected by the NSWFB at the assessment stage.

Certain types of developments, including designated developments as defined in Schedule 3 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000 (EP & A Reg.), are required to compile a Fire Safety Study (FSS) in the design stage as part of the development approval process.

Under the provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000 (EP & A Reg.), owners of buildings have a legal obligation to supply the Commissioner of the NSW Fire Brigades with a copy of a Fire Safety Certificate listing the fire safety measures applicable to their building.
